Research Discussion

The obesity epidemic has many probable causes and an even more ideas and solutions geared toward its decrease and overall prevention. Many factors, not limited to but including environment, family interaction, field of work, and choice of foods, have great impacts on the ongoing of this epidemic. The arrangement of the paper will be somewhat difficult because of the many views and how some organizations may hurt the cause more than they help it. For example, people have been surveyed on which type of commercial aiming at helping those with obesity may appeal more to them and may turn them away from being helped. Some commercials depict obese children eating or holding unhealthy food items and have slogans like “If you are not helping your child, you are killing them”. This type of commercial was looked at as negative, not motivational, and also helpful. A positive campaign is the ‘get up & play’ campaign endorsed by First Lady Michelle Obama, and was highly accepted by those surveyed. My research so far has shown me some of the sides of this epidemic, mostly researchers, scientists, and doctors. The challenge will be incorporating the pros and cons, being that some people prefer to be overweight and do not think they are making an unhealthy choice.

  1. I'd rather like to think that the many views of people and organizations on this issue would prove to be an advantage rather than a disadvantage in the arrangement of this paper. These many views will give you many points to make an argument from as well as the different sides of the argument. It'll be interesting to know how far your research takes you and how you end up incorporating the pros and cons and putting out your final paper. Please keep me up to date, thanks
